Anthony Brightly
Biography
Anthony Brightly is a certified phenom – a former child prodigy who has spent over five decades shaping reggae, Lovers Rock, and cultural heritage across the UK and the Caribbean.
Born in Hackney, East London, to Jamaican parents George and Millicent Brightly, Anthony grew up surrounded by sound system culture. He co-founded Black Slate in 1972, creating international hits like Amigo, and later developed projects that blended music, film, and community empowerment.
Today, Anthony continues to perform, produce, and inspire, leading the Black Slate 50+ Collection, building Buckleys Country Club Film Studios in Antigua, and launching DeJam Festival — a global celebration of reggae culture.
